Taper pipe threads: what they are and how to choose

These threads seal pressure-tight joints by the taper itself, so the thread form, depth and taper all have to be correct.

BSPT has a 55° angle, where NPT has a 60° angle, so the two are not interchangeable and need their own gauges.
